Gathering of Christian Converts on International Human Rights Day
Christian converts in Stockholm marked International Human Rights Day by holding a protest gathering to condemn the heavy prison sentences—amounting to nearly 50 years in total—recently imposed on Christians in Iran by the Islamic Republic.
Participants stated that these sentences reflect a broader pattern of human rights violations in Iran. They pointed to issues including executions, political imprisonment, violations of the rights of women and children, torture, corporal punishment, amputations, the targeting of protesters, the repression of religious and ethnic minorities, and the destruction of Iran’s natural resources and environment.
The demonstrators emphasized that these issues represent only a portion of what they described as the systematic violation of the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Iranian people over the past four decades.
Commemorating December 10, International Human Rights Day, participants called for greater international attention to the human rights situation in Iran and stressed the importance of defending the rights and dignity of all individuals, regardless of their faith, beliefs, or background.
