Third Anniversary of the Execution of Majidreza Rahnavard – Son of the Lion and Sun
On the third anniversary of the execution of Majidreza Rahnavard, the Iranian wrestler remembered by many as the “Son of the Lion and Sun,” a group of Iranian patriots and Christian converts gathered in central Stockholm to honor his memory.
The memorial ceremony was held on December 12, 2025. Participants paid tribute to Rahnavard by lighting candles and laying flowers in his remembrance. They praised his courage and described him as a symbol of patriotism whose legacy will endure in the hearts of many Iranians.
Speakers at the gathering recalled that Rahnavard was reportedly subjected to torture before his execution and stated that he remained suspended on the gallows for approximately thirty minutes after the sentence was carried out. Participants described these actions as evidence of the Islamic Republic’s harsh treatment of those it views as opponents.
They emphasized that Majidreza Rahnavard continues to be remembered as a symbol of courage and resistance, and that his name will remain alive in the collective memory of the Iranian people.
“National Lion and Sun Day” is observed by supporters and commemorated on June 16 (26 Khordad in the Iranian calendar), the birth date of Majidreza Rahnavar.
